Experiences At The DMV

I trudged down to the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles late last week to convert my Wisconsin drivers license and to changes plates on my vehicle.  My first impression when I entered the building was that no one, including me, wanted to be there.  A brown haired DMV lady was barking orders to a young man just getting his first license, one man was sleeping in the corner of the waiting area (never a good sign), and one employee was waiting on the remaining 15 of us standing in line.

As I waited I observed employees who didn't care, apparently hated everyone in the building, and were so oblivious to their customers they didn't even notice the man in the corner now using four seats as a bed.

When I finally made my way to the counter the DMV employee didn't even make eye contact.  She was rude, uncaring, and not willing to engage in any conversation whatsoever.  It was scary, and we all know it doesn't have to be this way.  I wondered why her supervisor let her act this way and then I noticed that her name badge said supervisor.  How does that happen?

I hope people don't perceive us that way but unfortunately they do.  Many people put the DMV lower than going to the hospital or the physician's clinic on the list of things they hate the most.  That means they'd rather put up with Mrs. Sourface than Dr. Footinmouth.
